ABOUT

At Die Vetkoekie, we believe in good food made with love. What started as a small home kitchen dream has grown into the go-to spot in town for fresh, hearty vetkoek and tasty fillings. Every bite is made from scratch, just like mom used to, bringing you that warm, homemade flavour you can’t find anywhere else.

Founder

The heart behind Die Vetkoekie, Julia Buhr, was a woman with a deep love for people, good food, and warm hospitality. She started the business from her home kitchen, where her legendary vetkoek quickly became a staple at family gatherings, weddings, and community events.

Encouraged by the overwhelming support of friends and family, Julia turned her passion into a business — and Die Vetkoekie was born.

Although she sadly passed away in April 2025, her spirit lives on in every batch we make. Her dedication, warmth, and signature flavours continue to inspire everything we do.

Die Vetkoekie is more than a business — it’s a tribute to a mother’s dream and a reminder that love, shared through food, never fades.

Owner

From home kitchen helper to proud owner, Hester has been part of Die Vetkoekie since day one. She worked alongside her mom, Julia Buhr, from the early days of mixing dough at home to helping open the doors of the first shop in town.

Together, they spent countless hours experimenting with fillings, testing new sauces, and dreaming up what Die Vetkoekiewould become.

After her mother’s passing in April 2025, Hester took over the reins — continuing not only the business but the heart behind it. Like her mom, she believes in real food, big flavour, and happy customers.

Her mission is to keep the warmth and quality Die Vetkoekie is known for, while also bringing fresh ideas to the table.

“This is more than a business — it’s our family story served one vetkoek at a time.”

The rest of the Team

Behind the scenes up front at the counter, you’ll find Elize and Kaydee — the friendly faces who help keep Die Vetkoekie running smoothly.

They’re not just part of the team; they’re part of the Die Vetkoekie family. From prepping fillings to packing orders, they put care and consistency into everything they do.

Whether it's a busy Friday lunch rush or a quiet prep day, these two bring dedication, laughter, and heart to the kitchen every day.

Customers love them for their warm smiles, fast hands, and the way they treat everyone like a regular.

“It takes a team to make magic happen — and I couldn’t ask for a better one.” – Hester
